Passports must be valid for the duration of the intended stay and contain at least one blank page for entry and exit stamps. Nationals of several South American countries may enter Uruguay using an approved national identity card instead of a passport; travellers should confirm the documents accepted for their nationality before departure.

Citizens of many countries can visit Uruguay without a visa for tourism purposes. These include nationals of Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom, the United States and EU member states, who may stay for up to 90 days.

A tourist visa costs approximately US$54, payable in the local-currency equivalent set by the consulate. Fees may vary with the applicable consular exchange rate and should be confirmed before applying. The application fee is non-refundable if the visa is refused.
A tourist visa is valid for 180 days from the date of issue and permits multiple entries during that period. It allows a stay of up to 90 days.
