Where to stay in Turkey
Turkey offers a wide range of accommodation options, from simple guesthouses and boutique inns to international hotels and luxurious seaside resorts. In major cities such as Istanbul, Ankara and İzmir, travellers will find everything from business hotels and serviced apartments to stylish boutique properties in historic districts. Prices vary widely, but mid-range options generally offer good comfort and value.
Along the Aegean and Mediterranean coasts, resort-style hotels, beachside villas and family-friendly complexes are common, particularly in destinations such as Antalya, Bodrum, Marmaris and Fethiye. Many of these properties feature pools, spa facilities and all-inclusive packages.
In central and eastern Turkey, options include traditional guesthouses, restored stone hotels and homestays that reflect local architectural styles. Cappadocia is especially known for its cave hotels, which offer atmospheric stays carved into the soft volcanic rock.
Accommodation in popular destinations can fill quickly during summer and around public holidays, so advance booking is recommended. Outside peak times, travellers will find a broad choice of places to stay, often at competitive prices.
Camping is possible in many parts of Turkey, particularly in national parks, forested areas and along the coast. Official campsites can be found in regions such as the Kaçkar Mountains, Cappadocia, the Gallipoli Peninsula and parts of the Mediterranean and Aegean coasts. These sites vary in facilities — some offer simple amenities like showers, electricity and small cafés, while others are more basic.
Wild camping is generally tolerated in remote areas, provided it is done responsibly and away from residential zones, farmland and protected archaeological sites. In national parks and nature reserves, camping may be restricted to designated areas, so it is advisable to check local regulations before setting up a tent.
Along the coast, informal beach camping is relatively common in quieter bays outside the main tourist centres, though rules can vary by municipality. In mountainous regions, weather conditions can change rapidly, especially in spring and autumn, and nights can be cold even in summer. Proper equipment, water and supplies are essential when camping away from town services.
