Qatar has excellent healthcare with a good mixture of private and government-run hospitals. There are also many pharmacies with English-speaking staff throughout Doha too. Having said that, visitors should come with travel insurance.

Food and drink

Tap water is safe to drink in Doha and other urban areas. In other areas, bottled water is a sensible precaution. In general, food hygiene standards are good and it's fine to eat from markets and street food stalls. Use common sense and only eat well-cooked meat and fish.

Other risks

The most common risk for visitors is heat stroke when temperatures hit 34°C (95°F) or above. Simple measures such as covering the head, keeping out of the midday sun and staying hydrated help avoid this. Sandstorms may cause respiratory problems too.

Health certificate

Visitors who intend to stay for more than one month should undergo a medical examination, including HIV testing.
