Cruising on the Swan River is a perfect way to see Perth and its surrounds, or if you’re a thrill seeker hop aboard a jet boat. Services mostly operate from the Barrack Street jetty in Perth. Cruise south to Fremantle, east to the Swan Valley on a wine cruise, or head further afield on a jetcat or ferry to Rottnest Island, or out to sea for some whale watching.

Perth tours
Perth Tram - actually a bus – is a replica of trams operating in 1899. Drivers provide live commentary for the two and a half hour long tour of Perth City, Kings Park, Perth Mint, Swan Bell Tower and Burswood Casino. Get on and off as you please. Bookings are not required. Further afield, let someone else do the driving whilst you tour the Margaret River or Swan Valley Wine Regions.
Excursions from Perth
Despite a name that is Dutch for 'rat's nest', this island is an idyllic 10km (6-mile) stretch of white sandy beaches and crystal clear waters, located about 20km (12 miles) off the coast of Fremantle. The 'rats' are actually Quokkas - cute, small, harmless marsupials and incorrigible picnic crashers (feeding them is forbidden). Enjoy swimming, snorkelling, windsurfing, diving, fishing and bird watching. Walk, hire a bicycle or check out the island on a two-hour bus tour (leaves from Thomson Bay). Ferry services leave from Perth (Barrack Street Jetty) and Fremantle (East Street Jetty and Victoria Quay).
Just 25 minutes from the heart of Perth (and just 10 minutes from the airport), the Swan Valley offers an impressive range of wineries and fine food that are closer than but just as good as the better known Margaret River Wine Region. The award-winning Swan Valley Food and Wine Trail takes in some of Western Australia’s finest wineries, breweries, distilleries, restaurants, cafes and fresh produce providores. For history and art & craft buffs there’s no shortage of things to keep you busy. Try a Swan River Cruise from Perth for a unique perspective on the area.
