British Virgin Islands - Money
Currency & Money
The official currency in the British Virgin Islands is the United States Dollar (USD; symbol US$), which is divided into 100 cents. Banknotes are in denominations of US$100, 50, 20, 10, 5, 2, and 1. Coins are in denominations of US$1, and 50, 25, 10, 5, and 1 cents.
Credit cards, particularly Visa and Mastercard, are widely accepted at most hotels, restaurants, and larger businesses in the British Virgin Islands (BVI). However, some smaller establishments, especially on less developed islands like Anegada, may prefer cash payments.
ATMs are available on the main islands, with Tortola and Virgin Gorda offering several machines, particularly in commercial centres such as Road Town and Spanish Town. However, islands like Jost Van Dyke and Anegada do not have ATM facilities.
