The city enjoys about 169 days of sunshine per year with temperatures reaching summer highs of around 25°C (77°F). In winter, temperatures tend to fall to around 4°C (39°F). However, winter winds can be very cold so it always pays to wrap up well. Wellington does suffer from high rainfall, with June and July being the wettest months. January and February has the best events, welcoming everything from the Wellington Cup Carnival and Summer City Festival to the New Zealand Fringe Festival and the Wellington Jazz Festival.
