Los Angeles International Airport is one of the world’s busiest transport hubs. As one of the five major airports in Los Angeles, it is the primary airport serving the greater metropolitan area. Our guide to the airport includes information on terminal facilities, local transportation and nearby hotels.

Airport news

The right-most drop-off lane on the Departures Level of Terminals 1 and 2 is closed to vehicles until March 2020, while it is used for a covered pedestrian walkway between Terminals 1 and 2.

The right-most pickup lane on the Lower/Arrivals level of the Tom Bradley International Terminal is closed between Columns B2 and B5 on the northern side of terminal. The right drop-off lane is also closed on the Upper/Departures Level, for use as a pedestrian walkway.

More updated information on airport maintenance work is available on the Los Angeles World Airports website (lawa.org).

Information booths are located on the lower level (Arrivals) of each terminal, near baggage reclaim – these also provide information about onward connections and flights and assistance for disabled passengers; the Tom Bradley International (TBI) Terminal has an additional information counter in the Departures lounge.

Los Angeles International Airport has a recorded LAX Infoline (tel: +1 855 463 5252) and a 24-hour LAX Construction Hotline (tel: +1 310 649-LAWA 5292).

Transfer between terminals

A shuttle service (A route) between terminals is available for passengers. The A route operates 24/7 at 10-minute intervals. To use the shuttle service, board the LAX Shuttle under the LAX Shuttle & Airline Connections sign on the Arrivals level islands in front of each terminal.

There is a bus connecting terminals 2 and 3 for passengers to use after passing security.

Driving directions

Los Angeles International Airport is located just off the Pacific Coast Highway (Highway 1), near the intersection of Interstates 405 and 105 (Highway 1 is also named Lincoln Boulevard just north of the airport and Sepulveda Boulevard just south of the airport). From Downtown Los Angeles, take Interstate 10 west towards Interstate 405, then head south along Interstate 405. Take exit 46, turn left onto La Cienega Boulevard, then right onto Century Boulevard. Take exit 46 and follow signs to the airport. Traffic is heavy at peak times and the airport recommends using public transport. The journey time from central LA varies widely but may be up to one hour.
