Phuket International Airport Guide (HKT)
Phuket International Airport serves the popular tourist destination of Phuket in Thailand. It is one of the country's busiest airports. Information desks (tel: +66 76 327 2307) are located on the ground floor and 3rd floor of the International Terminal.
Driving to the airport from Phuket city centre and vice versa is straightforward. From the city centre, follow Route 402 northbound then take a left onto Route 4026. After roughly 4km (2.5 miles), turn right onto Route 4031; this road leads directly to the airport entrance. The total drive time from Phuket city to the airport is approximately 40 minutes.
Public Transport
Bus: Buses, emblazoned with a large ‘Airport Bus’ logo, depart for Phuket city centre at a cost of THB85 one-way. The Airport Bus is located on the first floor. The airport website lists departure times (phuket.airportthai.co.th).
Taxi: The taxi stand is located directly outside the terminal building. The journey to Phuket city takes about 40 minutes and costs upwards of THB150 (depending on the taxi service).
A limousine service is also available. The fare to enter the city is THB400-450.
Terminal facilities
Wi-Fi Internet access, free of charge for the first two hours, is available throughout Phuket International Airport. Public telephones are also available within the terminals. A post office is located in the arrivals hall on the first floor of the Domestic Terminal.
There are numerous restaurants located throughout the Domestic and International Terminal offering a variety of cuisines. Phuket Airport also has several small cafés, ice cream shops, fast-food outlets and bakeries.
There are a variety of shops throughout Phuket Airport including duty-free outlets, perfume and jewellery shops, bookstores and more.
International arrivals have two conveyors for luggage at the airport. Domestic arrivals also have two conveyors and the remaining two are for departing passengers. Passengers can trace any lost property at the counter of Thai Airways International, which is located on the first floor. Luggage wrapping is available on the 1st and 2nd floor in the Domestic Terminal and the 2nd and 3rd floor in the International Terminal. Left luggage services are also available.
Airport facilities
There are currently no conference or business facilities at Phuket International Airport. However, the nearby Dewa Nai Yang Beach resort (tel: +66 76 372 300; www.dewaphuketresort.com) houses an onsite meeting room with a maximum capacity of 30 people.
Facilities for passengers with physical disabilities include lifts, disabled toilets and lowered telephones. The airport also has dedicated parking spaces that are reserved for disabled people. Any passengers who may require additional assistance are advised to contact their airline in advance of travel.
There are car hire counters in both the Domestic and International Terminals. Avis, Budget, Hertz, National and Sixt are among the companies represented.
A short drive from the airport, the beachfront Phuket Marriott Resort and Spa oozes luxury, offering guests modern and spacious rooms - complete with flat-screen TVs - a sprawling outdoor pool with spa, and a restaurant that serves fresh fish right by the beach.
Phuket Airport Hotel is approximately a five-minute drive from the terminal. Despite its proximity, the hotel offers a free shuttle service to and from the airport. Accommodation is in the form of bungalows and there is a small pool and free Wi-Fi for guest use.
A short drive away from Phuket International Airport, this recently opened beachfront complex is blessed with a children’s play area, swimming pool, spa and a choice of restaurants. A function room is available for hire.
