Klosters resort information & après-ski

Après-ski

Klosters is generally a laid-back, sleepy kind of place, with the nightlife concentrated mostly in hotels or restaurants at the Platz area of the village. Chesa Grischuna (tel: +41 814 222 222; www.chesagrischuna.ch) and the Silvretta Parkhotel (tel: +41 814 233 435; www.silvretta.ch) attract a quiet après-ski crowd, with their piano music and relaxed ambience, which typifies the resort’s sophisticated feel.

By ordering a cold one in the Chesa Grischuna Hotel (tel: +41 814 222 222; www.chesagrischuna.ch) you’ll be following in the footsteps of numerous Hollywood A-Listers, including Gene Kelly, Rex Harrison and Renée Zellweger, who’ve all propped up the bar here.

For livelier late-night dancing, try the disco at Casa Antica (tel: +41 814 221 621; www.casaantica-klosters.ch).

Eating out

There are around 40 restaurants in Klosters, with 100 more choices available in neighbouring Davos. The Klosters choice is largely within the hotels, but also includes a growing number of gourmet establishments and traditional family-run eateries.

Guesthouse Sonne (tel: +41 814 221 349; www.sonne-klosters.ch) serves affordable yet tasty regional fare, while Wynegg Hotel also provides good value and filling food in a lively location.

Despite the clear onus on tasty local cuisine, a number of international eateries have arrived in Klosters, including the Tapas Bar (tel: +41 814 102 570; www.its-tapas-bar.ch), which is quickly becoming a tourist favourite, and the stylish Baer’s Bistro (tel: +41 814 233 309; www.baer-s.ch), which is the home of the excellent salmon burger.

The Berghaus Alpenroesli (tel: +41 814 221 357; www.alpenroesli-klosters.ch) located above the resort, offers a special experience; a romantic evening fondue followed by the chance to sledge back down to the village in the moonlight.

Resort Information

Beyond the slopes

The village has a thriving cultural centre, the Kulturschuppen Klosters (tel: +41 814 225 164; www.kulturschuppen.ch), which includes a theatre and a cinema.

There are a number of art galleries and museums in the twinned resort, including the Nutli Hüschi Museum (tel: +41 764 242 543; www.museum-klosters.ch), which displays local artefacts in a beautiful 16th-century wooden building.

For sporting activity away from the slopes, Sportzentrum Klosters (tel: +41 814 153 600; www.sportzentrum-klosters.ch) offers skating (free for resort guests), speed skating, ice hockey and curling. Back on the snow; choose from tobogganing, snowshoeing or Nordic walking on one of the three trails that range from 3.5km to 4.6km (2 to 3 miles) in length.

Those looking to savour the scenery in and around the resort can opt for ice climbing, paragliding or horseback riding; all of which afford incredible views of the landscape.

Family fun

Klosters is a great choice for families searching for a relaxed ski holiday in a peaceful and child-friendly environment.

Non-skiing young children (two years and above) can be looked after at the crèche near the gondola at Madrisa, which also has a children's ski park with adventure slides and play areas. Those wishing to head out onto the slopes can make use of ski and snowboarding tuition from several ski schools, with their tailored classes for kids.

For older children and teenagers, the Sportzentrum Klosters sports centre has hockey and curling classes, as well as a range of exhilarating sporting activities to try.

Retail therapy

The limited selection of shops in Klosters includes fashion boutiques, sports retailers and gift shops found mainly in the vicinity of the train station in Klosters Platz. Among these, Rössli Antiquitäten (tel: +41 814 221 516) is a good choice for local handicrafts.

There is also a small supermarket in the centre for convenience goods. A wider range of shopping opportunities is available in neighbouring Davos, including boutiques and souvenir shops along the main street.

Splashing out

For a truly memorable experience, soar weightlessly and effortlessly above the mountains during a tandem paragliding flight over the Prättigau Valley with Flugcenter Grischa (tel: +41 814 222 070; www.gleitschirm-schule.ch). Flights depart from Gotschnagrat.
