Airport news

The new satellite building opened in April 2016. Plans are in place for an extension to this facility, as well as a potential second satellite building and third runway. Terminal 1 will is to be extended and refurbished, providing a total of 95,000 square metres (0.0367 square miles) more in new space. Some hotels have been expanded, and construction of a new hotel is due to start in 2020.

Information

There is a 24-hour information desk (tel: +49 89 97500) on level 3 of the main Munich Airport Centre (MAC) – the main concourse connecting the two terminals. In Terminal 2, information desks are located on levels 3 and 4 in Arrivals and Departures respectively, and there are four information desks on the fourth floor of Terminal 1. There are also several Lufthansa Service Desks located throughout Terminal 2 and a tourist information desk on level 4 of Terminal 1.

Transfer between terminals

The Munich Airport Centre connects Terminal 1 with Terminal 2, which is a 10 minute walk away. There is also a shuttle service between the terminals which runs every 15 minutes.

Driving directions

Munich Airport is located just off the A92 between Munich and Deggendorf and is accessible from four motorway exits.

From central Munich, the A92 is accessible from the A99 ring road that circles the city. Alternatively, it is also possible to reach the airport quickly via the A9, which connects the city centre with the A92 a short distance from the terminal complex. Once at Munich Airport, follow the signs to Terminals 1 or 2. The total drive time from central Munich to the airport is approximately 40 minutes.

Public Transport

Public transport rail

Rail: Commuter trains S1 and S8 depart to various Munich stations (journey time: around 30-45 minutes), including Munich Hauptbahnhof, Marienplatz, Laim and Ostbahnhof, where rail connections are available to major German cities and European destinations. The S8 is usually the quicker of the two services, but is less frequent. Public transport road

Bus: Bus and coach services run to Munich and the surrounding areas. Lufthansa Express (tel: +49 89 323 040;www.airportbus-muenchen.de) is an airport bus service to central Munich (journey time: 35-40 minutes; fares start from: €10.50). During large exhibitions another shuttle bus service connects to the München Messe exhibition centre. Information and tickets are available from the Service Centre (tel: +49 89 9752 1475) in Terminal 1. Bus connections are also available to Salzburg, Innsbruck and other nearby Austrian cities.

Taxi: Taxis are available from Munich Airport to the city centre (journey time: 40 minutes). You can find taxi ranks in the arrivals and departures areas of Terminals 1 and 2 (tel: +49 89 97 585 050).

Money

Several banks, ATMs and bureaux de change are available in the terminals.

Communication

Free Wi-Fi internet access is available throughout Munich Airport. There are also internet points and a post office in the Munich Airport Centre, between the terminals.

Food

There are around 60 restaurants, bistros and cafés at Munich Airport that offer a wide selection of international cuisine. The Terminal 2 gallery in particular is a popular spot for drinking and dining.

Shopping

There are duty-free shops (for passengers leaving the EU) and many other outlets selling a wide variety of clothing, electronics, accessories and gifts.

Luggage

A left-luggage office is located in the Service Centre within the Munich Airport Centre. The lost property office (tel: +49 89 9756 3344) handles enquiries for lost items. Baggage trolleys are available and a porter service (tel: +49 89 9759 9795) is run by porters dressed in green uniforms.

Other

Other facilities available at Munich Airport include a 24-hour medical emergency centre, a pharmacy and a dentist. Baby changing rooms and children’s play areas are available in the terminals. Other facilities include a dry cleaning and laundry service, showers, spa rooms, chapel, dry cleaning services and travel agencies.

Conference and business

The Regus Business Centre in the MAC Forum (tel: +49 89 9700 7000; www.regus.de) can host events and exhibitions. The Municon Conference Centre (tel: +49 89 9759 3200) has 35 conference rooms accommodating four to 120 delegates. The new VIP Wing (tel: +49 89 975 213 33) luxury lounge in Terminal 1 also includes conference rooms, as well as wireless internet access, a bistro, bar and shower facilities.

Additional conference and meeting facilities are available at the on-site Hilton Hotel (tel: +49 89 97820; www3.hilton.com), which can accommodate up to 1,000 delegates and has a fully equipped business centre.

There are six airline lounges and two airport-run lounges: the Atlantic and Europa lounges. Security personnel, a VIP service and relaxation rooms with beds and baths are other services available to business visitors. In Terminal 2 there are the Lufthansa Senator Lounge for First Class and for Etihad guests as well as EAP Platinum Card holders and the Lufthansa Business Lounge for Business Class and Etihad guests as well as EAP Gold Card holders.

Disabled facilities

Disabled passengers should inform the airline of any special needs and assistance required prior to travel. Many services, such as accompaniment, arrangement of disabled transport services and wheelchair repairs, are available at the airport. Mobility services are free of charge, but have to be booked at least 48 hours in advance through your travel provider or airline.

TDD telephones are located on level 3 of the Munich Airport Centre and in the medical centre, and there are tactile systems in place for the visually impaired in Terminal 2. Wheelchairs are available free of charge from the information desks in Departures (concourses A-D and Z). There are wheelchair-accessible toilets and elevators throughout Munich Airport. Disabled parking is available in all underground and multistorey car parks.

Car parking

There are nine multi-storey car parks with more than 15,000 spaces in the terminal area. Car parks P1, P2, P3, P4, P5, P7 and P8 are all short-term parking areas located close to the two terminals. Long-term parking areas P41, P80 and P81 are a little further from the terminal complex but are linked by complimentary shuttle buses or trains. Valet parking is also available.

The 24-hour Parking Office (tel: +49 89 975 222) is in the Munich Airport Centre, on level 3. Spaces are bookable online via the airport’s website.

Car rental

Car hire companies at Munich Airport include: Avis, Budget, Enterprise, Europcar, Hertz, Sixt, Buchbinder and Thrifty. Offices for these operators are located on Concourse A of Terminal 1.

Hotels

There is a small selection of hotels at Munich Airport, in addition to those located only a short shuttle ride away. A 24-hour hotel reservation service is available from the central information desk in the main concourse.
