Weather in Geneva

Best time to visit

Geneva has a continental climate characterised by warm summers and cold winters.

Spring (March to May) sees temperatures gradually increase from average highs of 10°C (50°F) in March to average highs of 20°C (68°F) in May.

The summer months in Geneva (June to August) have obvious appeal: the crowning glory of the Fêtes de Genève brings the city to life and long evenings to the drinkers and diners enjoying themselves on the terraces.

Autumn (September to November) is pleasant. Although September and October usually have more precipitation than the rest of the year, there’s still a mild warmth that is suitable for outdoor activities. The average temperatures in November are around a high of 9°C (48°F).

While the Swiss winter (December to February) is cold, it comes with its own charms such as the surrounding scenery arguably at its finest under a dusting of snow. Visitors should be aware that January and February can bring minus temperatures so warm clothing including scarves and gloves, is advised.
