All visitors to Colombia must hold a passport valid on arrival. Although there is no general requirement for six months' remaining validity for visa-free visitors, Colombian immigration authorities recommend that passports remain valid for at least six months beyond the planned date of departure.
Travellers arriving by air are required to complete the Check-Mig pre-registration form from 72 hours before travel until one hour before departure.
Passport and visa regulations are subject to change, and airlines may have different requirements. Information is correct at the time of writing; travellers should check with the relevant embassy before departure, particularly when transiting through a third country. Nationals of Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom, the United States and EU member states do not require a visa for tourist visits to Colombia. Visa-exempt visitors are normally admitted for up to 90 days, with the period of stay determined by the immigration authorities on arrival.
Nationals of other countries should check whether a visa is required with the Colombian Ministry of Foreign Affairs before travel.
Foreign nationals holding a visa valid for more than three months need to register with the Foreigners Registry of Migración Colombia within 15 calendar days of entering Colombia, or within 15 calendar days of the visa being issued if it was obtained while already in the country. Certain Visitor (V) visa holders are exempt from this requirement.
Colombia issues Visitor (V), Migrant (M) and Resident (R) visas. Travellers requiring a visa for tourism should apply for a Visitor (V) visa.
The Visitor (V) tourist visa currently has an application fee of US$56 and, if approved, an issuance fee of US$82. Fees may vary by nationality and are subject to change.
A Visitor (V) tourist visa may be valid for up to one year. The authorised stay is up to 90 days, which may be extended for a further 90 days, to a maximum of 180 days within 365 days.
Visa applications are submitted online through the Colombian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Applicants outside Colombia should select the Colombian consulate responsible for their country of residence when completing the application.
Applicants should allow up to 30 calendar days for a decision after the application fee has been paid. Applications requiring additional documentation or an interview may take longer.
