Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport is about 20km (12 miles) west of Yu Garden, a hugely popular attraction in the old town of Shanghai.

At Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport, the distance between Terminals 1 and 2 is 2km (1 mile). Terminal 2 is right by Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station, with high-speed trains heading to Beijing, Hangzhou, and Nanjing, while Terminal 1 is on the other side of the airfield. To transfer between terminals, passengers can either take a free shuttle or Metro Line 10.
The shuttle service runs from 06:00 to 22:30 and arrives at 60-minute intervals, making stops at Terminal 1 (Gate 6, Departures Hall) and Terminal 2 (Gate 1, Arrival Hall). The journey time is about 15 minutes.
Metro Line 10 connects Terminals 1 and 2. Tickets are available at station kiosks; the journey time is about 5 minutes.
Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport is easily accessible via the S20 Shanghai Outer Ring Expressway (上海外环高速公路), which encircles the central districts of Shanghai, offering a direct route to the airport from various parts of the city.
Public Transport
Rail: Hongqiao Airport's Terminal 2 is adjacent to Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station, a central transport hub serving the Beijing-Shanghai High-Speed Railway, the Shanghai-Hangzhou High-Speed Railway, and the Shanghai-Nanjing Intercity High-Speed Railway.
Metro: Hongqiao Airport has three Metro access points:
• Hongqiao Airport Terminal 1: Metro Line 10
• Hongqiao Airport Terminal 2: Metro Lines 2 and 10
• Hongqiao Railway Station: Metro Lines 2, 10 and 17
Metro Line 2 connects Hongqiao International Airport with Pudong International Airport. The journey time is 90 minutes, possibly longer if the train terminates early at another station.
Bus: 11 bus routes are available from Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport to various places in Shanghai. For example, Airport Line 1 connects Terminal 2 of Hongqiao Airport with Pudong International Airport, while Line 316 provides direct access to the Bund, a major tourist destination.

There is a currency exchange counter near Gate 4, Arrivals Hall, in Terminal 2. However, foreigners arriving in Shanghai should note that cash is not commonly accepted in China now. Travellers should download AliPay or WeChat Pay before the trip.
For Malaysian travellers, the mobile payment Touch 'n Go becomes AliPay in China, meaning it can be used for a vast majority of services (except those requiring WeChat Pay specifically).
Wi-Fi: Free Wi-Fi internet access is available throughout Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport.
