Where to stay in Tasmania
There are international hotels in Hobart and Launceston and a wide range of tourist hotels and motels in all the major centres. Standards vary, but ensuite, TV, tea and coffee making facilities and, sometimes, a small fridge is usual. In addition, there are holiday flats and apartments for hire.
Bed and breakfast and cottage accommodation is available throughout the state. Accommodation is often quite luxurious.
A number of companies can arrange campervan hire, with a range of fully equipped vehicles. There are numerous camping and caravan sites in Tasmania.
These are located in wilderness areas and along the coastline and are designed to blend in with their surroundings. Some offer a high standard of comfort including spas, while others are more humble and simple in style to tie in with the surrounding environment. Lodges usually organise activities such as kayaking, wildlife viewing and guided walks.
There is an extensive network of backpacker hostels all over the island. Standards range but those at official YHA hostels are generally very good.
