The national carrier is Ariana Afghan Airways (www.flyariana.com), based at Kabul airport.

Kam Air (www.kamair.com) also operates local routes between Kabul and outlying cities such as Herat.

Much of the Afghan road network was destroyed during the 2001 conflict, but large parts have been restored, including the Kabul-Kandahar highway and the Kandahar-Herat highway.

Getting around towns and cities

Public buses operate within Kabul, but the service is unreliable, with many of the buses alling into a state of disrepair.
